The Dairy Bar

Elizabeth Rodrigs is the new owner of the popular Red River eatery, The Dairy Bar at 417 E. Main. She knew she was buying a Red River tradition when she assumed operation July 17, 2017. She attended the Culinary School of Fort Worth and graduated “with honors” in Culinary Arts. She moved to town in August 2016 from Bowie, TX. Interested in running her own restaurant, the Dairy Bar was the “best fit.” “It’s a very successful business and it runs near my heart: coming up here as a kid and going to the Dairy Bar… fond memories of it! I first came here as a child on...

Rustic Mountain Gifts

Debbie Folger’s original plans for her Rustic Mountain Gifts shop in Red River was to be open by Memorial Day during the annual Motorcycle Rally. As is often the case, however, turning an old cabin into an attractive retail store can take more time than anticipated. The door finally opened on June 16. Located beside Bitter Creek at 421 E. Main in the cabin behind the Hideaway Shoppe and the Dairy Bar, (look for the windmill), Rustic Mountain Gifts is a welcome addition to the East Main business district. “We have an eclectic, rustic home decor menagerie: everything from glass paintings, stained glass, watercolors to fine art, woodcarvings...

Everyone Is Truly Unique

Red River is known as a tourist town, a year-round destination where folks can relax and enjoy the beauty and adventure that nature has to offer. With a population of less than 500 people, most of the year-round residents who are not retired earn a living by interacting with the tourists. Bill Mackey’s interaction with visitors is a bit different than most of his neighbors. He is an architect and building designer, a very good one. He has been a Red River resident since 2007, along with wife Lisa who is an accountant and until recently worked for the Red River Chamber of Commerce. Bill and Lisa don’t...

Songwriters Festival Returns

The 7th Red River Songwriters Festival is set for January 25-27, 2018, and tickets will be extremely limited but the annual winter icebreaker is well worth the trip, especially if you are a writer always looking to learn. Special guest writers this year include Darrell Scott (below), Brennen Leigh, Noel McKay, and Ben Danaher.
