Warm & Fuzzy New Event
Calling all dog and wine lovers… Have we got a fun time planned for you! A first-ever river city happening, “Red River Wags & Wine” is slated for July 29 in Brandenburg Park. The inaugural event is a fundraiser for the “Mountain Bark Park,” a fenced-in park where locals and guests can bring their dogs to exercise and play safely, leash free. With over a dozen pet friendly lodges to accommodate them, many of our visitors are coming to town with their beloved pets. The new addition is expected to be located at the east end of town adjacent to the Library.
Brandenburg Park’s gates open at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, and close at 5 p.m. Admission is free (donations welcome) and a ton of activities are planned. There will be training and handling demos, an agility course, groomers, and a K-9 Demo. Furry friends’ contests include the “Fur Ball” for best costume, a pet fashion show, a dog/owner look-alike competition and a People’s Choice award up for grabs. Vendors will bring all sorts of dog products and an animal psychic will be on board as well. You may want to stop by the photo and artists’ booths to have an everlasting image of your best friend(s) made. Adding to the daylong fun will be our local “Hwy 38 Houndogs” performing their tunes.
Don’t have a dog? No problem… Lovers of the grape can enjoy all the activities as they sip a little vino presented by regional vintners – don’t forget to bring your photo ID! Foods that pair well with the varied wines will also be available.
“Yappy Hour” will kick off the weekend Friday, July 28, 5-8 p.m., on the deck at Mountain Treasures, 121 E. Main, with wine tasting, food, and a silent auction. All dogs, vendors and guests are welcome.
For more information and/or vendor registration check redriver.org or call 575-754-3030.
All proceeds will go toward building the Mountain Bark Park.
