Year-Round Fun at RRSA

The Red River Ski Area has plans for expanding activities and recreational options in summer/fall 2014. In addition to the very popular chair lift ride, mountain biking, hiking, sightseeing and photo excursions, disc golf and the thrill of tubing down one of the longest toboggan tubing chutes this side of the Mississippi, active promotion of weddings and an increased musical presence are being added.

“Last year we really stepped up our music involvement at The Tip, throughout the summer” says Walt Foley, Deputy Manager for RRSA, “and we are really going to focus on more of that this summer.” Among the acoustic acts that will be performing outdoors on the deck of The Tip Restaurant are locals Ry Taylor, Tim Collver, Fritz Davis, Mike Smith, and a few surprise guests on weekends and special times.

The Platinum Chair Lift is the centerpiece of activity, and will be in operation from Memorial Day through Labor Day, 9 am to 4 pm, weather permitting. A triple lift, the Platinum Chair moves at a sightseeing pace with a half-hour ride to the top of the mountain. Accessible by the chair lift, numerous mountain bike trails and roads meander throughout the 300 acre mountain.

Learn and have fun on an interactive guided walk in the beautiful and historic Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The 45 minute “interpretive” walks leave from The Tip Restaurant at 10:30am and 11:30am every Sunday Morning in July.

“We want to build upon the interpretive side of our programs to make sure that our guests in the Carson have a more knowledge-based visit.

“The Forest Service is very supportive and encouraging,” says Denny Judycki, RRSA President/GM, “because they would obviously like the general public to have access to more information about the forest.”

One of New Mexico’s premier Disc Golf courses will greet you at the top of the mountain. It is open to the public throughout the summer and is the site of the 3rd annual Drew Judycki Memorial Tournament on September 27-28, 2014. The event is named for the late Drew Judycki, longtime owner of the ski area whose vision for the RRSA and the town of Red River is still very much alive.

Future plans call for an exciting zipline, a ropes course, and expanded hiking trail interpretive tours during the season.
