Red River Community House Celebrating 60+ years of Fun!
You can't miss it! It's the big log cabin smack in the middle of town. It looks like the kind of classic building you would expect to see in a mountain community surrounded by the forest. It is the soul of Red River summer days and nights.
The dream of the Red River Community House began to take shape in 1940 and, by 1942, the doors were opened wide to the public for square dancing, card playing, weddings and Sunday worship. It remains to this day true to its intended goals of providing good, healthy family entertainment.
While the building serves many purposes, it has become most well-known as the mountain home of square dancing in the Great Southwest. In addition to square and round dance activity nightly, lessons and classes for every level of dancer - beginners to experts - are offered on a regular basis, and this year will see the increased excitement of swing dancing, as well as line and specialty dances.
A list of activities is usually posted on the front porch, along with times and notification of special events.
The Community House is a not-for-profit organization, so donations are more than welcome. Most activities there, however, are free to the public and there is an open invitation to strangers and first-time visitors to stop by, make new friends and have the kind of fun that has made the Community House what it is today. Happy Birthday, RRCH!
