Welcome, my friends, to the high country of Northern New Mexico! We are pleased that youve come to visit and we are glad to have a chance to share our mountain home with you. May your stay be as long as your heart and soul allow.
It is cool here during the summer. The average daytime temperature is 75 degrees, while nighttime requires a sweater. Dont be surprised if you can see your breath in July.
I tell you this because I like you, and I want you to know what lies in store for you in our valley. I also tell you this because I know that you come from regions where the daytime summer temperature is 864° and the evening temp drops to a chilly 863°.
I want you to know that youve come to the right place to be reminded that there are still spots on earth where you can escape the heat. Furthermore, I tell you this because I, too, am a refugee from the blast furnace of the prairie and plains. It has not been so long ago that I was roasted and toasted, and Ive not forgotten the great sense of relief when I saw through the windshield the mountains looming ahead, a blessed sign that my beloved Red River retreat was close at hand.
By the way, there are plenty of wonderful things to see and do while youre here. But if you do nothing but sit on the porch and watch the deer eat grass, enjoy the cool. It was made just for you.
