Art Is A Fruit That Grows In Man

Mt. Treasures Pottery Want to buy or just look? Art is alive and well in Red River.

Located by the river at the corner of River Street and Pioneer Road - the road to the Red River Ski Area - the Red River Gallery of Fine Arts houses the remarkable work of the multi-talented Wyatt family. Internationally renowned painter, sculptor and lecturer Kenneth Wyatt is best known for his Western and Christian art. His landscapes, portraits, still lifes and character studies are in the collections of Presidents, including George W, Congressmen, the Queen of England, celebrities and major corporations around the planet. His portraits of the Apostles received wide acclaim for their powerful depiction of the human side of the most famous of biblical characters. Dr. Wyatt and his wife Veda, whose work can also be seen at the Gallery, along with the work of their daughter Jill Wyatt Marshall, live in Tulia, Texas.

Mountain Treasures Gallery is Red River's latest home of local and regional art, which includes a host of excellent Texas artists. Paintings, sculpture, photographs, jewelry and pottery are on display. In addition, the Gallery has an ambitious schedule of workshops taught by professional artists and teachers. Mountain Treasures has also expanded to include the Gallery Coffee Bar and Bistro, offering gourmet coffee, pastries and sandwiches which can be enjoyed on the new outdoor deck.

The Bobcat is a first-rate gallery of Native American crafts in Northern New Mexico. The towering A-frame located on East Main Street, next door to Patricks, is owned and operated by Sheri McShan and has a large inventory of hand-crafted jewelry, representing some of the nation's finest silversmiths and Native jewelers. In addition, there is a huge selection of fetishes - animal spirits in the form of stone - from Zuni, a fine collection of pottery from some of the most respected contemporary pueblo potters, authentic kachina dolls and drums.

Moon River is located on East Main between the Motherlode and 1900s, and has an eclectic variety of Southwest edibles, candles, cards, books and hand-painted one-of-a-kind gift ideas. Check out the Oriental rugs. In addition, they offer a selection of hand-made pottery and works by regional and local artists like Rick Fowler, Leroy Featherston and Steve Howard.

The Jewelry Lady on East Main is not an average jewelry shop. With a huge variety of hand-made jewelry, their motto is "We play with jewelry!"

Bear Crossing on East Main is Red River's nod to folk art, featuring wooden bears, most of them crafted with a chainsaw. Nifty and unique.

The Knot Hole is located at the corner of East Main and Copper King Trail, in the old Red River Post Office. They offer a variety of mountain decorator items. The specialty, however, is handmade wooden furniture in a rustic mountain style.

The Black Crow Coffeehouse has photos and paintings by local and regional artists on display, plus great works of creative coffee.
