Try square dancing at the Red River Community House. It's fun and it's free. 4. Play a round of frisbee golf in the cool mountain air at Mallette Park. (No charge.) 5. Challenge the record of the Unser family at Go Kart City on Main St. or try arcade challenges at the Black Mountain Playhouse on Pioneer road. 6. Get some binoculars and go birdwatching for all those species you don't see at home. (Hummingbirds to eagles). You're likely to see a few deer while you're at it. 7. Set up an easel and paint the local scenery or wildlife. Use lots of green and blue. 8. Get binoculars or a telescope and go stargazing - on your own or with a guide - and see galaxies you've never seen before. 9. Go fly a kite in the park or by the river. 10. Sit on your porch, breathe deep and feel the cool mountain air fill your lungs. Watch the hummingbirds, and just listen to the river flow. And relax. 11. Visit the Vietnam Memorial on the way to Angel Fire - a truly moving experience. 12. Listen to a free concert in the park or street music around town. Watch a demonstration by an artist or a magician's slight of hand. 13. Enjoy an outdoor meal by the river or at one of Red River's restaurants that have outdoor seating and service. The food's great and view... well, it doesn't get any better. 14. Hang out with the locals at the local Coffee Houses and have an espresso for breakfast. Or Lunch. Or dinner. 15. Catch the Frye's Old Town gunfight at 4:00 high from late June through mid August on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Laugh, moan, have fun. 16. Go to the melodrama at Red River Inn and hiss or boo the villain. 17 Have a family horseshoe game by the river in Woerndle Park. 18. Get Married in Red River. Lots of people do. ![]() |
