Nestled in the mountains of Northern New Mexico with sunny 75° days prevailing, Red River is the perfect site for summer and fall outdoor festivals and events. Most of the events are held in Brandenburg Park in the center of town, within easy walking distance of almost all in-town lodging. For those preferring not to walk, there is a free trolley that will pick you up and deliver you anywhere within the town limits - only a phone call away at 575-770-5959.

There’s a huge variety of events throughout the summer/fall season. Most are free and offer food, vendors and entertainment for the whole family. They are dog friendly, but please keep your pet on a leash.

In addition to the special events, the Chamber of Commerce sponsors Bingo in the Park throughout the summer from July through August 31 - Monday-Friday 6:30-8 PM. There are also several Softball Tournaments scheduled at the ball field on the west end of town next to Valley Condos. Contact the Chamber of Commerce for the schedule - 800-348-6444.

Some Tips for Outdoor Events

While it’s a rare day without sunshine in Red River, we do have typical mountain weather. Brief afternoon showers are not unusual and it’s a good idea to dress in layers with a sweater or jacket at hand in case of changing weather. For events extending into the evening be sure and have a warm sweater or jacket, particularly if you’re from a much warmer climate. Even in summer, evening temperatures will drop rapidly when the sun goes down, often down into the 40s or 50s, so prepare to bundle up if you’ll be outside.
Don’t forget that the 8750’ altitude does have its effects. Be sure and wear a good sunscreen - it doesn’t take long to get a bad sunburn this high up. It’s also a good idea to wear sunglasses. The UV rays are much stronger at this altitude.

Be careful with alcohol consumption. Too much sun and the altitude can amplify the effects when your body is already trying to adjust. Enjoy, but do it in moderation. The free trolley usually runs late on weekends, so don’t hesitate to call them for a ride if you are feeling the effects - 770-5959.
