Art - It's Own Reward

Bobcat Gallery The Bobcat

Like its namesake, a unique and mysterious lynx that resides in the mountains around Red River, The Bobcat (photo below) was established in 1971 by Greta Gallagher and has established itself as a first-rate gallery of Native American art in Northern New Mexico. The towering A-frame building is located on East Main Street, next door to Patricks.

Under the care and guidance of Sheri McShan, the Bobcat has a large inventory of hand-crafted jewelry, representing some of the nation’s finest silversmiths and Native jewelers. In addition, there is a huge selection of fetishes - animal spirits in the form of stone - from Zuni, a fine collection of pottery from some of the most respected contemporary pueblo pot ters, kachina dolls, drums and Native paintings.

North Wind Gallery

Located on East Main, North Wind is Red River’s newest gallery, specializing in fine Southwestern art. Owned by the mother and daughter team of Ray Spellman and Kathy Cornwell, who formerly operated a gallery in the Gulf Coast town of Rockport, Texas.
North Wind Gallery
The North Wind Gallery represents a number of painters, including local artist Vernie Boren.

The gallery also features finely painted Native American drums, pottery and artwork, Southwest florals, wooden birds, and hand-turned wooden art bowls. One entire wall is required to display a huge selection of crosses and religious art.
