Circle The Square
The Red River Community House opened its heavy, solid wooden doors in 1942 and has been the site of down-home fun ever since. It is a private, not-for-profit organization and operates solely on memberships, donations and free-will offerings.
Daytime activities include cards, games and lectures, while the evenings are filled with square and round dancing, dance lessons and talent shows. Sundays are reserved for church and a gospel sing-song. The public is always welcome.
Toots and Jr. Richardson, of Clinton, Oklahoma, are the directors of activities.
Out Of The Past
Built in 1915 after the first schoolhouse was destroyed by fire, the Little Red Schoolhouse is a salute to the past and Red Rivers latest visitor attraction.
A working schoolhouse from 1916 until the Second World War, the building located on Jayhawk Trail (behind the Library building) contains photographs, artifacts and historic documents, as well as a recreation of a vintage classroom.
Long-time Red River resident Bob Prunty will be on duty five days a week to answer questions and explain exhibits. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Reading To Relax
As early as 1899, the Red River Literary Society had books available to loan to local citizens who found reading to be a great way to pass the long, dark winter nights.
Today, the Red River Public Library is located at the "Y" on East Main. The library has a great collection of books, including a Southwest section, and a large inventory of audio "books on tape." It is open year-round, five days a week. Hours are posted.
P.S. With a town population of around 450 people, the library has over 1,800 registered users, with many visitors as well as neighbors and their children from surrounding communities taking advantage of this fine facility.
A Genuine Arcade
Black Mountain Playhouse, located on Pioneer Road across from the Ski Area, is a fun center with video games and arcade amusements, pool tables, a roller skating rink, miniature golf. Theres also a go-cart track on Main Street, all great family entertainment.
The Playhouse, as it is called, was built by L.S. Lewis in the late 1930s as a dance hall, but was soon converted to an arcade and has been providing fun and amusement ever since. Its a true family fun center.

Americas most popular indoor sport, shopping in Red River stores and shops is a holiday treat. It never goes out of style.
