If you visit Red River on a regular basis, you may have noticed an increase of colorful murals on the outdoor and indoor walls of local buildings. Fantasy scenes of high country beauty with fanciful mountain vistas and outrageous flowers have become the trademark of Red River's Kathy Pruitt, a former high school English teacher who has created a wonderful way of expressing herself and the love of her mountain home. Her most recent and ambitious work can be seen on the exterior wall of the Alpine Lodge. Kathy spent much of last summer creating the large and bright additions. Murals aren't her only form of expression. Her painting can also be seen in a number of Red River town houses, condos and Upper Valley homes. Her paintings are also on display at Mountain Treasures Gallery on Main Street. Speaking of Mountain Treasures Gallery, their bold expansion continues this winter with the addition of live music indoors - they have music on the deck during the summer - to enhance the coffee house setting. Did I mention they are also a coffee shop, a bakery and cafe? So while you are looking at the wonderful wide variety of work by local and Southwestern artists you can have a cappuccino, eat a reuben and sing along with the guitar player.
