For Niki Koepp, the name of the business, Onota Bakery and Coffee Haus, has deep family ties. "We used to live in the town of Onota on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan," Niki relates, "and our Great-great Grandmother was named Onota." Located in the Capo's Restaurant building on Pioneer Road - the road to the Ski Area - Niki offers great baked goods and delicious hot and cold drinks in a coffee haus setting, including a sunken conversation pit. They also sell bulk coffee and goodies to go. Niki opens at 7 AM. Onota is the realization of a dream for Niki, who has been in Red River since last April. She moved from Denver, CO, where she worked for Hewlett-Packard until she got fed up with corporate life. Her mother Patti Tibbitts was a two year resident of Red River and loved the valley. Niki paid her mom a visit and fell in love with the mountain valley and the rest is history. |
