Live Music Still a Red River Tradition

From the earliest days, music has been an important part of the social life of the Red River Valley. Hard rock miners danced away the aches and cares of everyday life to the sounds of fiddles and banjos in the dancehalls and saloons.

Musical programs to entertain as well as feed the soul were a regular occurrence in the Red River School and many nights were spent in the parlor of the Young house around the first piano in the valley, singing and appreciating "proper" music.

Red River became a frequent stop for some of the finest names in the entertainment business, especially during the 1960s and 70s when the prolific "Austin Connection" was at its peak.

Fine entertainers and musicians will be on the stages of Red River this season - big celebrations on New Year's Eve and Mardi Gras. Whether you're looking for an evening of waltzes and two-stepping or prefer laid-back listening in an intimate setting, Red River's got the live music to add to the delight of your wintertime experience in the Mountain Resort Town of the Great Southwest.
