Check It Out: There Are Some New Faces

Gallery Coffee Bar Long time friend and valley resident John Brandenburg once said that Red River, despite the fact that it's constantly changing, is the same kind of town it was when it was founded in 1895. "It's funny how that works," he said.

There are some new faces and a few new places in town this winter. You are invited to pay them a visit and have a look-see. (Tell them we sent you.)

Mountain Treasures Gallery, one of Red River's fine arts galleries, has added The Gallery Coffee Bar, a relaxing coffee house atmosphere complete with great java and baked goods to munch on. Paula and Ben Richey may even have a cup with you and shoot the breeze. While you're there, check out the art work, perfect for giving your home that rich Southwest flavor.

Speaking of yummy stuff to eat, the Red River Dairy Bar is back in business. Known as Munchies in its last incarnation, the Dairy Bar was built in the early 1960's by Tony Simion Jr. The latest owners, Ted and Linda Calhoun, have done an extensive face-lift which has brightened up the place. The menu will be classic Dairy Bar, with burgers, fries, malts and shakes.

Down the street, another historic restaurant has changed hands. Old Tymers' Cafe is the new name of the Redwood Cafe, which was operated for twenty years by Danny and Diane Jentsch. New owner Steve "Chef" Shelton is no stranger to Red River restaurants and is bringing a wide variety of dishes to his new venture. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available, with everything from breakfast enchiladas and gyros to New York style pizza and calamari.

Right next door another long-time Red River business has undergone a change of ownership. Big Horn Sports ski rental is the new name of the Red Dawg, with new operators Robert Banos and Carolyn Key.
