Knowledge is power. Want some quick facts about The Red River Ski Area?
The ski mountain has a base elevation of 8,750, rising to over 10,200 feet at the top of the lift. That's a vertical drop of approximately 1,600 feet.
Snow is usually great with an average annual snowfall of 214 inches. And when Mother Nature takes a brief hiatus from winter duties, over 85% of the runs are accessible to advanced snowmaking equipment.
P.S. The term "artificial snow" is not correct. If the snow made by the guns was styrofoam or some other form of plastic, then it would be "artificial." The snow made by the big machines at RRSA is crystalline snow. It's real: it's just man-made. (Okay? Okay.)
There are four double chair lifts, two triple chair lifts, and one surface tow lift that give skiers access to 57 trails, of which 30% are expert, 38% are intermediate, and 32% are perfect for beginners.
The lifts rise right out of the town itself so you can park the car and forget it all week long. Nearly every motel and shop is accessible by foot from the ski area -or ride The Miner's Transit bus. Your kids are safe on their own in Red River, a source of pride for locals.
Don't Know How? We'll Teach You
Since the Red River Ski Area opened in 1959-60, it has gained the reputation as a great place to learn the skills of Alpine skiing. The award-winning ski school staff enjoys seeing skiers return year after year, bringing their youngsters to Red River to learn on the same slopes that gave birth to their own love of skiing. Lessons are available to all levels of skier skills. Even the most advanced can learn from some of the best instructors in the business.
