Sitzmark’s 1st Winter Ski Athlete Award

Meet 9-year old Gibson Smith, Sitzmark Sports & Lodging’s first recipient of their new “Sitzmark Sports Winter Ski Athlete Award!”

Gibson started skiing on rentals from Sitzmark when he was just 2-years old, a full year before getting on his first bicycle!

When he was a baby, his parents, Michael and Melissa Smith, noticed he had unusually awesome balance and he was super coordinated. They oftentimes found him climbing on, balancing on, and jumping off – everything.

Since he started skiing, Gibson’s had a season ski pass from the Red River Ski Area and he began skiing with Team Angel Fire when he was in Kindergarten! He now skis with their advanced team.

In 2018, Gibson stepped it up another notch, competing with the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA). He even qualified for nationals in 2020 for Slopestyle, but the event was cancelled due to COVID.

When he’s not on skis, Gibson can be found ripping it up on snowmobiles. He’s at home on our mountain and with our community.

The Sitzmark Sports & Lodging Winter and Summer Athlete Awards are judged based on Athletic Achievement, Academic Excellence, and Exemplary Character, such as Sportsmanship and Participation in Community and other activities.

Congratulations Gibson, you truly deserve this Winter Ski Athlete Award!
