Encanto – Movie Review

An adventure of family, fulfilled destinies, and the preservation of tradition.

From the visionaries that brought you the works of “Zootopia” and “Moana” alike, Disney’s new Oscar-winning animated feature “Encanto” has hit the shelves.

Picture this: the magic house with magic people possessing their miracles upon miracles. With such a whimsical atmosphere built, this story truly blooms (pun intended) into the endearing message of the importance of heritage and holding tight to those you love.

The narrative follows Mirabel, one of many inhabitants of the household with a heartbeat, the Madrigal home. Within the mountains of Colombia, a rich lifeblood runs through the Madrigals, each member withholding a special “gift,” a power that contributes to their village’s well-being. Mirabel, being the only one in the family without a gift, has felt the need to compensate for this lack of power, a burden to be carried her whole life. But when a disturbance has thrown off the balance of the house’s foundation, Mirabel is afflicted by a vision that just might be the saving grace of the Madrigal legacy.

A comical forewarning to parents of little ones: this will be a new carpool sing-along MUST! Lin Manuel Miranda, the über-talented man behind the phenomenon “Hamilton,” has conjured yet another masterful soundtrack that will keep your ears buzzing.

This film takes you through the highs and lows and the struggles and the victories of realizing the true purpose to oneself. The magical elements are pleasing to the eye, something sweet for the kids, but beneath the surface are incredibly valid emotions, pleasing to the soul.

Something is bound to touch every eye who grazes this viewing. A perfect watch for a nice night with the whole family.
