Quick Draw contest
Wild Rivers Plein Air Festival, July 16th-21, invites one and all to see new interpretations of one of New Mexico’s favorite painting destinations! Seventy-five  artists from around the Southwest – and the world – will paint the dramatic landscape of Wild Rivers Recreation Area, plus, historic sites around the village of Questa and the mountain town of Red River.

This 6-day festival includes four days of open painting, workshops and demos, a Quick-Draw event, and a two-day art show with awards!  The Art show will be held in Red River at the Rail Haus (formerly the Brass Rail) in the Alpine Lodge on July 20-21.

Saturday morning sees artists painting on the streets of Red River as part of the Quick Draw. That evening is the anticipated artist awards reception from 5-7pm. The Rail Haus show is open to the public from Saturday, 10am to the reception, and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Sheehan Winery will be in attendance. The 2nd Annual Local Artists Exhibit & Sales will be held in the Red River Community House July 5-6, 10 am to 5 pm. The event is organized by Red River artists Judy Burch and Boneta Currey Brown.

The 21st Annual Rio Costilla Studio Tour on September 7-8 invites you to look into the lives of artists and artisans who are living and working in the northern-most tip of New Mexico and in Southern Colorado. They open their doors and hearts to the process of their art. Plan for full days of discovery from 10am to 5pm.  There are B&Bs along the Tour. Stand in their studios/homes and soak up what they view every day and see what fuels their creativity.  The Sangre de Cristo mountains are to the east, the Rio Grande Gorge is to the west and Mount Blanca is majestic on the edge of the beautiful San Luis Valley to the north. This Tour is an authentic experience.

Explore the dramatic scenery of northern Taos County and meet the inspired artists of New Mexico during the Questa Studio Arts Tour, August 17-18. Studios will be open Saturday-Sunday 10am-5pm. The route begins on the south side of Questa and reaches the edge of the national forest, eventually ending north in Sunshine Valley.  Start early and add a hike in the National Monument or a take a drive around the Enchanted Circle.

The Kenneth Wyatt Gallery on Pioneer Road has been delighting visitors with colorful works depicting the American West since 1985.

In addition to great eating, Sundance Mexican Restaurant on High Street exhibits the works of local artist Linda Hoag.
